Poetic Exploration of Inner Space (2022)

Poetic Exploration of Inner Space is a self-portrait series exploring my relationship with the natural world in combination with identity, spirituality, the abstractions of birth, and the experience of time.

These conversations, in the form of written poetry, coexist with the photographs. The process of making this series involved pervasive states of meditation to produce a spectrum of linguistic translations, allowing me to experience vulnerability as uninhibited as the natural landscape.

Unintentionally, I began investigating the abstractions of birth throughout the project’s creation, starting with the sensations of returning to a primordial and numinous womb and its lasting presence in the human experience. I wrestled with the sweat of linear time and the perception of spiraling motion, creating a relationship with the shadows of my past, the instability of the future, and the dilation of time in moments of ecstasy and decay.

In becoming more comfortable with my appearance and how I mimic the natural environment, I slowly began to understand my identity as a woman, my relationship with the female form, and my expression as a visual and photographic artist.

The photographs are digitally captured with either the help of a friend, a tripod, or both. View the poetic complement.
